Our Part is to Try

In one of Jesus’ parables, he talked about a man that went out spreading seed…

“some fell along the path, and the birds came and ate it up. Some fell on rocky places, where it did not have much soil. It sprang up quickly, because the soil was shallow. But when the sun came up, the plants were scorched, and they withered because they had no root. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil, where it produced a crop” (Matthew 13)

The point that I want to note, which is usually ignored, is that the farmer didn’t know which seeds would work or which would not.  He didn’t wait till he knew the best way and only did that.  He tried many different places and ways, and some worked.

This is like our life.  You can’t know from the start which job will be best for you or path to the job.  You won’t necessarily know which romance will last.  You just have to go forth and throw your seed with hope in all of them.  Some will fail, but it’s the only way to know which WILL work and the only way to find happiness.
