The Dark Chronicles Act 5: Uncontrollable

Time for the next irreverent but true installment in my blog series, where I talk about things that most people know but don't speak out loud.  Often, it is because they either don't want to offend others or they are not sure that others believe it.  However, my experience over my life has been that there is a LOT of truths that are VERY important for life that people do not know, because they are not acceptable conversation in polite society.  Well, lucky for them, I happen to be of the personality type and life stage that I don't have to worry about that.

Are you passionate for life?  If you are, I would wager a life sum upon the bet that you feel both nervous about following your path and uncomfortable speaking about it or acting on it at times.  Why?  Well, it is because society doesn't want you to be passionate about anything that is different than the status quo norm.  If you are different, you are wrong.  That is the lesson that is taught over and over in our lives.  And, how can you be passionate about being... the same as everyone else?

Society loves control.  Society loves a script. Society loves pre-approval and validation in others.  In fact, validation in others is the STANDARD of what is.. in fact... acceptable.  If you have an independent mind, you are a threat to society, because you dare to make them feel bad about selling out.  There is something to be said for being able to integrate in society and impress others, and I feel that a personal journey to improve yourself will automatically accomplish that.  However, if your only standard of personal growth is impressing others, you will be a copy of a copy of a copy.... weaker and less important at every stage of change.

But, if you decide to be different... well, now there is something different.  It's like the main character in Brave New World being an individual, and the rest of the brain hive is astonished at anything .... different.  However, like as is seen in Plato's Republic, people don't like to be shown something different, and they tend to attack it, simply because it makes them feel wrong for following the crowd.

Personally, I like to be me.  It has taken a lifetime to forge the convictions and lifestyle that I have found to be valuable for me.  It is often not popular, but it is often more functional and lasting than the society that elevates a system of impossible expectations and recycled broken systems.

Society wants you to fail.  They may cheer you in moments of your joy, but my experience is that social media and society would rather you mourn with them and fail, and they will encourage you to fail to join them.  But, I would add thing... "failure" may be success.  If you CHOOSE to fail and to be original... well, I am discovering every day that that could just be the most liberating thing you can do for your life, as you then are free to do... whatever you like.  And, doing what you like is what defines your freedom and happiness in the first place.

It should not be a statement of rebellion to say that you simply want to be happy.  Others should want that for you, as well.  However, society has changed in their boredom to feel that happiness for them is to control your happiness as well.

But... as this is a blog about YOUR happiness, I will simply say this.  Don't be afraid to offend people.  Don't be limited in YOUR happiness to please those that are not concerned about it for you.  Be uncontrollable, and MAYBE you might actually discover a path to  happy days in your life, as well.

Follow Your Bliss

I think it was a couple years ago that I first discovered Joseph Campbell.  I had heard the phrase "follow your bliss" but hadn't given it much thought til that moment.  It just sounded like a holiday card that seemed too impractical.  But, upon digging into it and applying it to my life, it became one log in the fire upon which my self esteem and direction was formed. " Follow your bliss. If you do follow your bliss, you put yourself on a kind of track that has been there all the while waiting for you, and the life you ought to be living is the one you are living. When you can see that, you begin to meet people who are in the field of your bliss, and they open the doors to you. I say, follow your bliss and don't be afraid, and doors will open where you didn't know they were going to be. If you follow your bliss, doors will open for you that wouldn't have opened for anyone else " So many people walk around saying to others and themselves that they do...

Reframe Happiness

When you “reframe” something, it doesn’t always mean to be delusional about it… though some move in that direction.  They don’t accept reality, so they change their perception of reality to fit their circumstances.  Indeed, I got into several past bad social connections with people because I reframed their lack of effort, empathy, or romantic actions to be just that it was underneath but just not seen.  But.. to quote the Bible (not as a holy source but collection of passed down maxims on life), faith without works is dead.  What it means is if you can’t see its effects in some way, it’s not there.  That’s not just true of faith but is a life application principle for judging what is or is not, as well.  Even Jesus said to judge a plant by its presence of fruit… love, joy, peace, patience, etc.. or not.   But, what if the FRUIT and TRUTH suggests a path is not functioning to bring you happiness?  Then, you might want to reframe what you NEED to be...
